Destruction on the Docks

It’s just criminal…To insert the new points that give access to the baseboard, we set to work destroying part of the existing dock scene. Firstly lifting off the plasticard cobbles and then digging out the foam card below. (How much glue did you use...!)

Then using our paper template the approximate track path and turnout locations were transferred to the baseboard. Remember it’s nice smooth curves starting from a static point and building out……

The existing rail was then cut back flush and after some struggle the new points were simply inserted…. Well not exactly a rather sticky set of rail joiners and an over eager shove results in a new profile on the tracks (ooops!) The next twenty minutes are spent trying to rectify the damage.

To finish off for the day a luscious coat of black paint and don’t forget the mandatory wet paint signs.

Lights Camera Action

So after spending a great deal of time undoing the work of previous evenings the legs were reassembled.

The new and improved legs are finally straight and level!!!

One last thing to do fix the tube that holds the light frame to the leg. Three coach bolts later…

Walla it’s done.

Cut once, measure… How many times did we measure that!

It happens to all of us.

It wasn't going to matter how many times we measured it before gluing and screwing the legs together.

The end result is it’s wonky.

Baseboard alignment dowels

To ensure accurate alignment of the baseboards, the boards were manually aligned and drilled; a pair of bolts secured with wing nuts were inserted.

A second pair of pilot holes were then drilled before separating the two halves. These holes were then enlarged and C & L Baseboard Alignment dowels inserted.

Using these dowels to align the baseboards means that the boards can be easily separated and joined without fuss.
